I had an issue with the gas engine on my 742. After sitting a few months, it only wanted to run on choke. Through the advice of the forum, I rebuilt the Zenith carb and it seems that the issue is taken care of. Now, it seems that when I use the bucket under load, the engine wants to bog down. Is this an indicator of a governor issue? Help please.

Yes it could be a governor issue, but first check all of the linkages and bushings to the governor. Also make sure the governor has the proper oil in it.

It is possible you upset the governor linkage adjustment in removing the carb. The governor manufacturer has a detailed setup procedure with

measurements to use.

Drive belt should be just tight so as to not slip but no more. It can be pretty floppy.

I had a problem with my 642B gas engine, required choke to run.... turned out to be a device used to reduce/eliminate run on or backfire upon shut down. I do not know the correct name of the part however it has a vacuum line going to the carb and the intake manifold. the part is mounted remotely near the air filter.... don't know if the 742 has the same part....

I believe you are talking about the anti-Dieseling valve. It stopped working on my 742B and it would diesel sometimes when I turned off the ignition.

I think that maybe only the Mitsubishi engined 742 machines had the anti-Dieseling valve.

Here is a link to the parts catalog to make sure.

The Ford engine had the anti-dieseling valve too but often they get removed as people seem to thinkmthey cause more problems than they solve. You'll know if it's not working on the Ford engine because the engine won't run if it doesn't work. It's a solenoid in the carburetor…

I don't think that's the issue. My engine is running very good.
It's getting too cold the get out there and run the machine, so I will be waiting till spring, for now.
