Rebuilding my M700 was so much fun, I'm thinking about another one! I looked at a 600 series machine at a salvage yard but the owner is asking WAY too much. It's a non-runner with supposedly just electrical issues (yeah, right). This 843 popped up on Craiglist though...http://nashville.craigslist.org/grd/3603874260.html... I've searched through the forum and saw a couple of threads regarding the broken drive shaft (I'm assuming the seller means the u-joint). Sounds like you've got to dig in pretty deep to access. Also, a concern would be what got damaged when the shaft broke. And I wouldn't want the Perkins engine either. Waiting to hear back from the seller on asked questions.

The 843 sounds like a decent option.
If the U-Joint did let go, generally it won't take anything else out. With that said, there can be issues, it could have been bad for some time and damaged the input shaft/bearing/seal to the pump, but hopefully not.
Why don't you like the perkins engine? i think they are actually pretty good in this model.

Just what I've read in other threads about replacement parts availability and cost. I've always like those little Isuzu engines anyway. They're built really well. The $1000 asking price isn't bad. Let's see if the seller has service info and more info regarding this break down.

Snag that 843! Thats a smoking deal where I am. I'd buy it if I was closer lol. They still bring around 7K here. Heck theres jokers with nice 843s asking 12.5k?!?! here, not that they will get close to that. The local farmer has a 610 sitting in the weeds near me..hoping to snag it for $400. Would be nice to have a bobcat I could leave at my parents. http://syracuse.craigslist.org/grd/3580449414.html

I'd rather have a Perkins diesel in my 743B instead of the tempermental Kubota diesel it has anyday. I have a 1965 Massey Ferguson 150 row crop tractor with a 3-152 Perkins diesel, the engine has never been apart, and it will start right up no matter how cold it is. If you take care if it, it's bullet proof!

Thanks for the vote of confidence on the Perkins Ken. I think most all engines that have been properly maintained give excellent service. Unfortunately when you purchase used - you won't know unless the seller has service records. I keep receipts and even spread sheets on all my engines (well maybe not weed eaters LOL). Small businesses that are running these Bobcats hard to fill contracts may not have time for that though.

Without any response from Craigslist I had to do a little investigating. The ad photo had a big clue though. So after a couple of phone call I found the seller and it's still there. I'll be very cautious though after reading the post here... http://www.skidsteerforum.com/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabid=54&frmView=ShowPost&PostID=63138. I suppose all kinds of havoc can happen when the u-joint fails. I'll probably look at the machine this weekend.

... or the havoc could have happened before the U-joint failed and caused it's failure. I have that exact machine and lost a gear pump last weekend. Pump failed internally whjich caused the shaft to snap.

I guess it depends on how much it's worth to you. For the buy price plus a reman pump, i think it would still be a decent deal. That is IF you needed to throw another pump at it.
Let us know how you go after looking at it.

Stopped by the nursery and looked at it this morning. The seller said it was fully seviced one year ago and about a month ago failed. No loud noise. Just no travel. He had someone from Bobcat service look at it and diagnosed broken input shaft on pump. Estimated repairs at $3300. The seller started it up and the engine sounded good. Good engine oil level but the hydraulic fluid was off the stick. Probably lost the seal when the shaft broke. I made a $100 good faith deposit and now I'm going to look into hauling it to my property. Please look at photos and make observations/comments.

How much did the guy want for it? Listing has been deleted. Definitely a project, but it looks straight and all there...there used to be something welded to back end...wonder what that was? Wish my area had skid projects...:( Parched out here.

Hans, cant wait for you to tear into it. Hopefully the damage isnt too bad. The right side rear axle looks like a newer removable hub style axle. The power and size of the 8 series is awesome.Sounds like its time for you to buy an old roll back truck for your dead purchases :)

Melli- purchase price was $1000 without wheels & bucket or $1500 with wheels without bucket. I've got a spare set of 16.5 8-lug wheels but they're 10". I'm buying without wheels and I'll slap on the set from my M700 to get this one home.

I've searched the forum the serial number indicates it has the Izusu engine

Not a huge fan of the upper pivot pin on one side, looks like a bolt :)
Other than that, i rekon you got a bargain. Hopefully there isn't too much damage and it will be up and running in no time.

Thanks for pointing that out Tazza. It's funny how glaring a defect can be over looked. Good weather today and a day off so I'm going to pull the trigger on this. I think I've found a wrecker company capable of dealing with a 6000 lb. immovable object.

I know the feeling, something that is very obvious that you don't notice as you are looking for major issues.
Can't wait to hear what it's like when you finally get it into the shop ans assess the damage.

Its not THAT bad..lol. The worst one I saw a fairly new Bobcat mini ex with a bolt holding the dipper to the main boom. Had to be a 40K machine. :)

Whats the deal with that newer axle??
