New Holland lx565 engine problem

I'm looking at a 1997 New Holland lx565 skid loader 5700 hours on it. When running the engine smokes, over heats and has a miss. I have a lot of experience with gas engines but limited on diesel knowledge. I have an idea on what the problem may be, which is a head issue either gasket or the head in general is done for but i'm not positive and curious if anyone had some insight into this matter. I have no problem getting it and fixing it so long as the entire engine is not ruined and the parts wont cost an arm and a leg. Thanks for any help.

I dont think you can get engine parts for just one arm or leg, check Messick's .com for engine parts and prices or ERI for rebuilt ones. Messick's shows cylinder head assembly for about $2200 to give you a idea.
