New holland highflow 565

Hey gents. I guess this is also my introduction as well as a problem. First, names nick and im from a small town in newyork. I am taking a land scaping forestry class in which we use the New holland. Now onto the question. The problem is this: The skid steer has not been used for about 2 months, for summer vacation, and with all the tune ups will not start. The first try yeilded about a 15 second run then it stopped. After countless tries and attempted jump starts it will not run. All of the fuses are in the right spot and it will click and the fuel pump will work but it will only click. I wont even turn over. My class mates and I have checked everything and yeilded nothing. This machine is crutial to what we do so getting it fixed quickly is always good. Thanks! Cheers! ~Nick~

Dirty battery cables or a bad battery. Clean the cables on both ends.

OK, we need more info here. When you say it "clicks". Your saying the starter isnt turning the engine over? Is the click coming from the starter? Charge the battery and clean all the cable ends. Also, on the right hand side of the cab, at the ceiling is a switch. The switch may be under the fuse cover. Switch the switch into "service" mode. This elliminates the need to have the seat belt on to start it. Does that make any difference in what happens on your machine? Let us know.

Oh another thing. We tried two different batteries and they both had the same result. Not these were new batteries. And tried jumping it with a large kabota and yeilded the same result. One problem we found but resolved was that the seat belt wire was loose but that was solved. Anything will help.

Alright. New battery was used and the result was similar but the clicking was just faster. So the starter is getting power but nothing is happening im terms of it turning over. The connectors were cleaned and had no affect. Another class is working on it and I hope to give them some suggestions. Like I said earlier we need this machine. Thanks!

Have you tried jumping the solenoid to engage the starter? The clicking you hear may not be the starter solenoid but the starter interlock relay. If you jump it at the solenoid you can tell if the solenoid snaps in, if it does and starter does not turn pull the starter out.

Thanks Jerry! Some one had mentioned that it may be the solinoid. I will try this tommorow and let ya know. Thanks for all the help!

Unfortunatly there is no solenoid on the diesel. Any ideas?

I will go take a look at mine but there has to be a switching device there somewhere because that amount of current would not be sent through the system. if you can see where the large +tve wire attaches to the starter apply current there with a jumper cable direct from the battery. If nothing happens then you may as well pull the starter. but then again thats just my 2 cents and thats all its worth

On my 665 the solenoid is on the backside of the starter towards the engine you can feel it but to see it you would have to lift the seat I think. yours should be the same as the owners manual lists the 565 also. Do you have the service books for this machine? If not a member here skidsteerca had posted a link to a electronic copy.

If you find the solenoid hold your hand on it while someone operates the key. if it is operating you will be able to feel it click. So if you feel the click and nothing happens try it repeatedly a half dozen times , still nothing ,pull the starter out.

most auto parts stores have testing equipment and will check free, I would try check out the solenoid 1st then bypass the solenoid and apply power directly to the large wire going into the starter with jumper cable and of course put the ground cable on the frame of the starter. It may react violently so holding in a vise is best.

Thank you for all of your help guys! We hit our selves in the head when we yound out the negative cord was connected to nothing. It would be on the battery but not on the machine! Thanks!

That's why I originally said clean the cables on both ends. Evertbody assumes that if they clean the battery terminal end it should be good enough but most times its the other end of the cables that cause problems.

Reading your first post on this Nick you had power because you had the machine running and then could hear the fuel pump operate so how is the negative cable now completely disconnected? Unless it was such a loose connection that it fell off while you were working on the problem. good to hear it is solved though.

Yeah we didnt know how it had happened eithor. We gave it to another class there and we assumed months of work but they had it running the next day. Thanks guys!!! Regards! Nick.
