Need help with 1.6 2274E

Hey guys, I have a 742 skid steer with the 1.6 engine. I think my lifters are collapsing. I can't find a source for lifters. This is a pushrod motor. Anybody got any suggestions.

Just to give some further info: when spinning the engine over, it sounds like no compression for a few seconds then compression will kick in, and just continues that cycle. Also carb has vacuum for a few seconds and then exhaust is coming out the carb. Sounds like lifters trying to build up? Any other suggestions?

My understanding is if it has lifters that are not coming up properly, the compression should be higher, not lower.... It's almost as if the timing is off if exhause is coming out the carb.
Hopefully someone with more experience with these engines will post.

The ford industrial 1.6 uses mechanical tappets. Valve lash is adjusted at the rocker arm. Tazza is correct, a backfire usually indicates a timing problem. The lack of compression could be a flooded condition. Start over and start checking basics. Check for spark, check for fuel(wet, gas smelling plug) spark plug condition, check compression using a gauge, check timing.
