Need help identifying old Bobcat!!

"Do you mind me asking what the ole farmer sold it to you for?" I paide $4300 because it was supposed to be running. Checked some recent sales and found that 700s were sold between $3900 and $5200/. Found out it had last run two years before. Had to put in a rebuilt carburator and so far one new tire. Appears to have no hydraulic leaks. Engine is tight, no smoke. Seems to run really good. Bucket is oversized for dirt... a full load picks the back wheels off the ground, but is fine for cleaning horse stalls.
It's actually an M-620. I just bought one exactly like it and thats what my tag says. Tom.

Kilroy, Does your M-620 instrument panel contain only an ammeter, switch, and two warning lights? That is all that my "mystery machine" has. Also the "back door" is made of heavy sheet metal (not cast) and has a simple drop-in pin latch, unlike the 700. I'm still having problems posting pictures or I'd show these. Jack

Unfortunately I could not post pictures here but have them at http://www.tractorbynet.com/photos/showgallery.php/cat/500/ppuser/32411 The control panel and back door are shown. Can anyone definiely ID this as an M-620? On a Tractorbynet forum it was stated that the M-620 was a lightweight version of the 799 wich would explain why it has a 700 roll cage. The posting problems seem to be because this forum likes Internet Explorer browsers and I can't use it anymore because Microsoft dropped all support for Macintosh over a year ago. I'm using Firefox to access this now and it seems to work OK. Jack

The little panel this 620 had has been kind of hacked up a bit, but I asked the previous owner and he said thats about all it had in it, an ammeter and a couple lights. I repowered mine to diesel so at this time all I have is a glowplug switch and an ignition switch.

Where is the serial number located? I have a m500 and can't find one. The dealer says they can't help me until I give them the number. Of course my machine is older than anyone working there. LOL

On the 620 it is located on the cross plate just below the front of the seat, if your sitting in it, it would be right behind your calves.

Thank you. That is the number I gave them and they looked at me like I was crazy. I guess they expected a longer number. I wasn't sure if that was it because all of the writing was long gone, but the number was stamped so it was easily read. Joe

I would take a picture of the tag and go back to the dealer and show them it. Maybe someone else here on the forum with a older machine could chime in and let you know if their serial number is only a few digits long.

I actually just did that. I emailed him the picture. Then called him. All he said was it just doesn't seem long enough. I'll give him a call later and see what he finds. Thanks....Joe

Tom, A couple of questions about your M-620 that may help me pin down mine as being the same: You said your instrument panel was small. Does it look anything like the one shown on the right at http://www.tractorbynet.com/photos/showgallery.php/cat/500/ppuser/32411 ? The M-700 had a much taller panel with four warning lights. Does you rear door have a simple drop in pin similar to the middle picturea at http://www.tractorbynet.com/photos/showgallery.php/cat/500/ppuser/32411 ? The M-700 has a lever latch. Does your M.620 have dual speed ranges (with the selector leaver to the tight of the seat just behind the chock control)? The M-700 had two speed ranges. Mine has one. Does your M-620 have a hand brake (with the lever to the left of the boom control foot pedal)? The M-700 had one. Mine has no hand brake. Thanks for your reply. Jack

The panel on mine is exactly like your picture shows and my rear door has the drop pin and I have no speed ranges and no hand brake. I can get some pictures of mine if you like, just tell me what kind of views you would like to see. I have repowered mine with a diesel so everything behind the drive coupler will be different but the rest of the machine is still the same.

Tom, Thanks a bunch. You have absolutely pinned it down. I have a Model 620. No need for pictures. I do have a question, however. Is your bucket smaller than mine. I think I have the "light material" bucket, since if I fill it with dirt, the back wheels can come off the ground. The back wheels on mine were originally filled with solution, but the tires have rotted out and the rims are at the tire shop now getting new tires. I'd rather not use solution, but definitely need more weight in the rear. What have forum members done to increase the weight of the rear end? Should I just have another inch thick slab of steel cut to the same size as the present weight and bolt it on? Jack

I'm not sure if my bucket is smaller or not so I measured it up for you to compare, The bottom sheet is 29" x 60" the little corner strip is 3" x 60" and the back wall is 19" x 60". It looks as though you have a height extention on yours so you bucket is likely bigger.
I havent had any lifting/tipping problems yet because of the engine I put in it, the engine alone is probably 300lbs or more heavier and its an inline 4 so it extends further out back by about a foot. I would recommend adding more weight to make it more stable when full but you will find when empty you'll pull wheelies very easily..
Tom.
