Hey guys, I'm a dairy farmer in northern Maine and were doing silage bales for the first time and we need a skid steer for the barn. We found a good deal on a Gehl 4640. Has anybody have this model and have comments. The bales are 4x4. The 4640 is rated for 1650#.

How much does a bale weigh? Just across the border from you there are hundreds of Thomas's that work the potato barns and I heard there are some new leftover models at a dealer in the Hartland, not sure of their lift capacity though. A 150 (1500#) may work well or something just a bit bigger depending on weight of bales and how high you will be stacking them. Good luck.

If you have a Doosan dealer take a look at them, a nephew of mine has a large dairy farm and had a newer Gehl and now has a 75 hp Doosan, minimal electronics, and was 28000 with tracks plus tracks on it.
