Hi everyone! I have an older New Holland L 783 Skid steer and the HYDRO CHARGE light keeps coming on.... I have cleaned the screen under the seat which was full of crap and it still remains on... The fluid level on the dip stick is showing full. the machine seems to be functioning properly , maybe a bit slow.... any Ideas? I was having problems with the arms/bucket moving and hyro charge light was on!! I recently paid almost $ 2000 for service on this unit at Trebold in whitewater,wi. They replaced my pump ( super expensive), told me it was shot, and I paid for the total change of all fluids, filters etc. Got the rig home and with in an hour the machine was jamming up, arms would not move well etc. and the hyro light came back on.( guess my pump wasn't the problem). Took it back to Trebold and after many days of delay they told me the screen was plugged up.They charged me over $ 100 to clean the screen!! I told them that I paid to have the hydo fluids changed and they said they cant get all of the fluid out ( so i guess I got left with the dirty part ) First off I would not recomend using Trebold at all! Secondly could my other hydo filter be plugged again as well causing the light to go on? any ideas? thanks Walleyedon

Since you are loosing both hyd pressure and charge pressure, I would be looking at the components between the standpipe and control valve. The hydraulic flow starts at the standpipe screen, goes to the hyd pump, to the control valve, to the cooler and then to a check vavle. The check valve is what generates charge pressure for the hydrastats.
Since you are loosing boom lift speed at the same time the charge pressure light is on the problem is upstream from the charge check valve The possibilities that affect boom speed are standpipe screen plugged, colasping suction hose between standpipe and hyd pump, hyd pump, control valve releif valve. I do not think a faulty control valve relief valve would cause the hydrastat light to come on since the bypassed oil is going back the return line to the cooler and to the charge check vavle.
You need to have someone install a flow meter between the hyd pump and the control valve so you can narrow the posibilities down.
The dealer is right in that there is no way to get all the old oil out of the system. If you have a hydrastat failure you need to disassemble everything to get the oil out including the lift and bucket cylinders. As long as you use a quality oil and original equipment filters, and replace them regularly, I would not loose any sleep over that issue.

thanks Mike! I will try to sort that out.. will let you know what I find! seems to do all of it's operations.. am I hurting it using it a little with the hydro charge light on? thanks wallyedon

If you are noticing a change in performance when the light comes on then you should not run it. There is always a possibility the pressure switch is bad but that would not cause a change in performance.

I have a 1991 L785 and had the same problem this past weekend, my unit had sat for about six weeks and I had to remove and clean the screen 4 or 5 times to get a snot looking goo to finally quit clogging the screen and now it runs fine. I may change the hydralic oil before winter. Hope this helps.
