Model 863 F Turbo Hydro filter change.

New member here. Question. I have changed our all the filters on my 863 turbo except the Hydro filter. When I went to do so I first put a 4 quart plastic pail under the filter and proceeded to take off the filter. After the pail filled up to the top with fluid and the filter was still not off to replace I tightened it back up to rethink the process. My unit only has 1 filter not 2. May have had previous work on it in its past life. Do I have to drain the holding tank of fluid to change the filter or will grafity allow it to continue to drain while the filter is being changed. The Bobcat dealership said only a small amount should come out but I think a gallon is more than a little.

Stone Hands: 863G here, but have not yet changed the main hydro filter (6661248?). Sorry, no help from me. I assume it's located under the cab. You're not talking about the small case drain filters, are you? Those are well hidden down under everything else, aluminum, about 4" long and 1-1/2" dia. Those will continue to drain when you crack the lines loose on them, but at a fairly slow rate. I have an extra aluminum housing (found it at the flea market, unbelievable!) so when I change those, I have a replacement one already assembled with the new element and just swap them out quickly to minimize the mess. If I didn't already have one, I'd buy a single one from the dealer so I could do that trick. Same filters on my 751, T180, and 863 near as I can tell. ---Bobbie G.

The Res is above the filter. The filter is at the lowest point in the system as it relates to the Hydro. I found that if you disconnect the small hose on the res tank and drain the tank you can change the filter and only have to deal with the fluid left in the line from the tank to the filter. Roughly a couple of quarts at best. I bought a 5 gallon pail of fluid from my dealer and my little baby is back pushing up stumps. A little messier than I wanted but now I know the secret process.
