I have a 1975 M700 with a VH4D Wisconsin. The sticker on the inside says "Regular Gasoline". Is it ok to run unleaded gas or do I need to use leaded gas additive? Also, what are the rear hyd couplings that are welded to the engine door normally used for?

According to the service manual, it requires 90-94 octane and specifically says not to use unleaded fuel. These were made in a time when real gasoline abounded, and lead was used to protect the valves from burning. My Harley FLH from the same era is similar, a lot of people just do a valve job with modern components that does away with the lead requirement. As for the rear hydraulic couplers, the only item that comes to mind are rear stabilizers for a backhoe attachment, but hopefully somoene else will chime in with more options.

The additive is nice but in all honesty, I run a number of VH4D thousands of hours annually with unleaded with no problems. I'll be interested in what others have to say on this subject. The couplings are for accessories.
