Hi Guys, I am borrowing a neighbor's little used lx 885 for a construction project, and it has a couple issues. I'd like to take care of them if I can, both to help out a neighbor and to make the machine more useful to me. the biggest thing, is the throttle cable is broken, (no biggie there, simple fix) but the throttle arm on the injector pump is pulled all the way to open and held with twine (yeah, I know a bad fix when I see one) and the engine runs at about 2100 rpm all the time (and the top speed of the machine is about 6 mph. the machine seems to run OK for all that, but I'd like to be able to move faster than 6mph, and would like to be able to throttle up and down. I have a fair amount of diesel engine experience, but little on skid steers. any thoughts on the throttle issue? I haven't worked the machine hard yet, so I don't have any thoughts as to the power, but I'm looking for suggestions. Thanks Karl

Unless the machine has the 2 speed option in the drive motors (a second gear of sorts) your not going to gain along of ground speed. Maybe 1 or 2 mph. 2 speed machine can go up to @ 12 mph but with a skidsteers short wheel base this is only pratical on real smooth surfaces.
New holland suggest their machine be operated at full rpm. However it would be a good idea to repair the throttle so the engine can warm up at a lower rpm and at time I find less then full rpm is fine for lighter jobs.
