Hope you guys can help. I have a New Holland LX865 Turbo that has around 50% loss in power. Sounds good running with no noises and seams to run up to full throttle sitting still. As I was driving home last night I thought of a few things it could be. Turbo gone bad?, Fuel dist issue?, hyd fluid level issue (forgot to check it)?, or ? Any and all help would be greatl One thing I know is wrong with it is the base to the muffler is broke. In other words the muffler has vibrated though where the manifold goes into the thin medal part of the muffler. Need to buy a muffler if anyone has one email me.

I am not famaliar with that particular model, but if the turbo is bad, or if your exhaust leak is causing it not to spin (cheper fix) that may be alot of the problem. Let us know when you get it figured out.

I have an lx 865. my mufler bolts right to the turbo. it could have something to do with the muffler. I recentl rebuilt my engine. I inspected my turbo and the carbon build up on the exhaut side was rubbing the fin on the blower. It wouldnt take much to stop it from spinning.
the book says the turbo has to be dealer serviced. I had to either take mine apart and clean it or replace it. my dealer said they dont mess with them. Buy a new one they told me. I decided to take it apart and clean it They have some wierd nuts holding the blowers on the shaft. Its not to hard to get it apart. The blowers are delicate. I cleaned out all the carbon and inpected the bronze bushings. They werent real tight but didnt look worn The shaft floats on oil as you have an oil line going directly to the bearings..
The book gives specs for clearances for end play and bushing. I cant remember them but they werent real tight. The beonze bearings had sholders to control end play.
So I just cleaned and reassembled. You cant buy parts. I had a little noise for about 10 minnuts.[Little rubbing] Its not complicated. Im sure ballance is an issue with them not wanting you taking them appart. I have about 50 hours on it now. It seems fine.
I would give it a spin with my finger when you get your muffler off. You should be able to feel anything rough or sloppy. I was afraid to spray carb cleaner in mine. I didnt want to get loose carbon in the bearings. Mike

Disclaimer: This is from diesel truck knowledge.
Excess black smoke and loss of power on a turbo diesel usually indicates a turbo problem. If your engine is not building boost (the whole reason for the turbo), then the engine cannot efficiently burn the amount of fuel being injected. If the fuel is not burnt it goes out the exhaust in the form of black smoke.
Black smoke is fuel
Blue smoke is oil
White smoke (after warm up) is coolant/water.

No smoke leads me to believe that your problem lies elsewhere than the actual engine. Have your hydraulics/drive motors been making any noises lately, maybe there is something bogging the engine down such as a bad pump?
Is the engine bogging down or does it sound the same/similar but with significantly less power/speed?
Could it just be a bad batch of fuel, try some powerclean diesel service (silver bottle at walmart), or drain fuel and refill....
