Lx865 slow hydraulic boom and bucket

I just bought a 99 lx865 to use around my land. It shows 1425 hours, could be right, but the machine looks pretty rough. The boom doesn't want to lift w/ no load unless at 3/4- full throttle. The bucket lifts slow too but not as bad. The boom lifts a little faster if you are dumping the bucket as you are lifting the boom, but still has to be at full throttle. The bucket will still lift the front off the machine off the ground. If you let it sit with the boom extended it will hold pressure and not lower overnight. Filter and oil has been changed, no leaks. The machine has good power and moves forward/backward/turns just fine. How can I checked the hydraulic pressure myself and what should it be? Can I just hook a pressure gauge to one of the lines to the boom? Where is the pressure relief valve located? I think either it is messed up or the pump is on its way out, I have no experience with hydraulics. A guy on ebay is selling new pumps for about $350, but I don't feel like throwing parts at it yet. Also does the new holland shop manual go into much detail on the pumps/control valves/etc.?thanks for your help.

You can hook a pressure gauge into the remote hookups on the boom and test the pressure there. I believe the machines can have a 2000psi or 2450psi relief valve in them. The gauge should go up to that pressure and then the it should go over relief, but the gauge should stay at that pressure. If the pressure drops after it goes over relief then the valve and/or pump may be bad. Usually we replace the pump and the relief valve at the same time as a precaution. If the relief valve was dumping early you should be able to hear it bypassing when you are trying to operate the boom. The relief valve is located on the control valve between your feet. If you remove the cover it takes a 1 1/8" wrench and will be in the front left corner facing the machine as if you were about to climb into it.

thanks for the info. I'm going to get a pressure gauge that will read high enough tomorrow. The only one I could find at home went to 400psi. I don't here any noise from the relief valve so I guess that part is fine.

Mike, if the machine looks rough take the cover off the valves and make sure the linkage is able to make full travel. Surprising the junk and crud that builds up in there.

put a pressure gauge on it at the aux. hyd. , little at idle speed, maybe 500-600 mid throttle, 1200 wide open, so I guess its time for a new pump.

Before you throw a pump at it, ensure the relief is not stuck open. If will lower your pressure if its stuck for some reason.

pulled the relief valve the other day and the part inside was closest to the screen end, I assume the pressure would push it to the other end which is the end with the 1 1/8 inch head. so it looks like it isn't stuck open. I am going to check the lines going into the control valve to see if maybe there is a screen that might be clogged. I found a pump on all-hydraulic.com for $249, if I have the correct part# eaton 26008 LAA . I am going to check it out either tonight or tomorrow.

I didn't find many companies that had the pumps priced on their site, sent out a couple of inquiries but never heard back. Ordered a new pump from all-hydraulic.com for $249. It fixed it. now at idle the gauge shoots to 2500psi, works great. The other company selling them on ebay-I believe they are called skidloaderpumps.com wants $348 for the same pump. Eaton is on back order until march, but all-hydraulic will change the 26008-RZZ right turn to a left turn 26008-LAA so that it will work.
