Hi, I am new to the site and I have a question. I am looking at 1997 LX665 with a New Holland 4 cylinder engine. It has a new injector pump, but it might need a head gasket, it does have blow by and I am thinking rings? I was told that it would be ok for awhile, this would be used at my home only for snow removal. Thanks for any info Mike

Just be careful, some NH machines run their own engines. Parts are very expensive, so don't think new pistons and rings will be cheap, they are dealer only.
If its just wear and starts ok when cold it shoul d be fine. If its hard to start its getting very worn and a rebuild won't be far off. Just don't get stuck with a lazy machine that will need a costly engine rebuild.
I'm sure others will chime in with other views.

Thanks for the info, it does start right up. Mike

I take it the head gasket is leaking coolant, not blown right out causing a loss of compression between 2 cylnders?
There will alway be some piston blow by, but less is better, try comparing the volume you see with the volume of a know good egine of simular size. Kind of a subjective thing, but might help.
How many hours on it?
