Hello. This is my favorite board for reading about skidsteer topics. I bought a used 1995 New Holland LX-865 from a nearby landscape company. I saw it start up and run when I was shopping for it. It was delivered to my barn, then I started it up and drove it in about 2 months ago. I wanted to pull it out and start to service it and learn more about it. The learning has just started because it won't start up and let me get it out of the barn. Here is how far it gets in the sequence: 1) run mode, sit down, buckle seatbelt (belt doesn't seem to matter, no lights change, no behavior changes, maybe it was worked around?), turn key to warm up mode, wait for countdown and beep, turn key to start and hear a single click over by where the starter motor/relays are. Clicks again when key released from start position. 2) Same as above, but in service mode, while key turned to start, clicks like a machine gun from the starter motor/relays area. Only guess I have is a stuck starter motor. I'm not much of a mechanic, so I am just putting info together. Bummer that the boom lift arms are down in the way if there are any extra ideas on technique dealing with that.

if it is same as lx665 you can remove the side panels and get access with the boom down then you can run power directly to the starter from the battery to see.

I hate to reveal how illiterate I am, but a handy fellow I know said my battery is probably too weak, so that sounds like the place to start. Eventhough I get full headlights and such, that's what he says. Once the strep throat wears off, I'll go out and give it a try. I did get those main side panels and then the little side panels off yesterday, so it is sort of possible to weave arms around the booms and fiddle around a bit.

Just to close the loop, after a full session on a battery charger, the machine came to life.

That's what we like to hear. A battery may show 12v with a tester, but as soon as you load it down, it drops to zero, hense the clicking of the relay/starter.

Also check that your ground from the battery is tightly fastened to the ground post on the machine.
