I have an LS180 I have been working on. I noticed when I have the boom about 2 feet off the ground and an turning or jerking the boom will move side to side and slap on the wear stripes that are on the cab. I parked the machine with the boom up and looked for bushings or joints that were worn. I couldnt find any. The wear bars on the side of the cab look fine. There appears to be around 3/8" clearance on each side of the boom to wearstrip. I can grab the boom and shake it and it will rattle against the cab. It appears the boom should be tighter. Any ideas?

There are too many pivot points for the boom to be tight enough not to hit the cab. The higher the boom the more slap you get and once you get above the cab it can jerk the whole loader around. That is one reason New Holland recommends carrying the load as low as possible and never above the cab when traveling.

Yup, my ls170 is the same way. the entire boom assembly was replaced shortly before I bought it and it still does what your talking about. New Holland booms are a little heavier built than others and that attributes to their side to side movement.

I never noticed it on my other NH machines, and neither did the guy who was running the machine. I guess it just looked bad because the machine was really jumping around...
