LS170 Gear box and motor removal

I have a ls170 that the axle fell out of it when the bearings failed, now I rebuilt the axle and when testing it that side of the skid steer would barely turn. Now I noticed there is fluid leaking out of the motor in to the chain case and it spins but will not spin the rest of the drive mechanism so either when the axle fell out it messed up all of that or it was getting ready to go anyway. I know I have to remove the motor and gear box to see what is going on in there but can you remove those with the pump in the machine? I have already started taking the motor out but it will not come out of the gear box, so if I take all the blots out of the gear box can I get it out of there with the motor attached to it? It looks tight as hell and I am not sure! Please any feedback if you have some!

Some clarification of the problem is needed................At what place is the oil leaking into the chain case. On later LS170"s the oil level in the chain case was raised and a drilled bolt was installed at the lower front gearbox mounting bolt. This allowed the chain case oil to enter the gearbox for lubrication. When you drain the oil out of the chain case, oil will continue to run out of the hole in the bolt since it is a small hole..........If it is leaking at a higher point then yes you have a motor leak.........You say something is spinning. What is spinning? If the motor is spinning than the parking brake discs should be spinning in the chain case. If the brake discs are not spinning then the motor is not turning since the motor is splined onto the gear the discs are mounted on. That is why you can not pull the motor off easily. You will need to install a puller on the gear with the brake discs and push the motor shaft out of the gear. Be sure the motor mounting bolts are removed first. The shaft and gear have tapered spiines, so once it breaks loose the motor can easily be removed.........If the brake discs are spinning but the chain drive gear is not turning than you have a problem in the gearbox. The gears have straight cut teeth that intermesh and since you did not say it was jerking, I doubt the problem is there........... Does the engine want to pull down when you attempt to move? If it does then you have something dragging. Be sure the parking brake is fully released and the park brake discs in the chain case are loose.
