Hi everyone: I found this forum while looking for a skid steer for my 6 acre property. March Madness is over for me so I'm trying to get acquainted with these interesting machines. My needs aren't big so a small unit will do just fine. If you have any pointers, please fire them my way. I have one question, Is diesel the only way to go even though I'll be trying to start it during Wisconsin winters? Any help will be appreciated.

It depends on th brand you would like too, how much you want to lift, how much room you have for access etc.
As for fuel, diesel is the best option. You can get block heaters for the engine that will aid with starting in the cold. They use less fuel than a petrol engine does, produce more low end torque too. Pretty simple to maintain, no electronice/ignition systems to worry about. If you keep it serviced it shoudl last about twice as long as a petrol engine too.
I'm not sure if any current models are available in non diesel setups or not. I think diesel is the standard these days.
