Has anyone heard of a skid steer called a leader l800? I have one, there is no infomation on the internet at all so i assume the company is long gone. Popped a hydraulic hose and dont know what fluid to put in it?it is american built with a perkins 4cyl engine. 800kg lift, good little machine, plenty of power. Can i just put any type hydraulic fluid in it? Its quite an old machine, maybe 1993-94 built? All four wheels are Independant, no chan drive. Has baldwin bt351 hydraulic filters if that helps. The fluid that came out seems quite thin, not like engine oil. Thanks

Using some different terms, Leader L800 gives a return to a closed auction here , which has pictures that should verify what you have.
Some returns also indicate Rounder 800 , but those appear to be considerably smaller and cruder machines. Hand written notes on a copy of a Rounder 600 book I have indicates that parts were available from Prime-Mover. All of these manufacturers were located in or around North Dakota, which indicates that they were splinter groups from the Melroe company, much like the early auto industry splintered off into what we today call the Big Three.

As for the hydraulic fluid you have, if it is clear, chances are that it's AW32 or AW46, the difference being weight, of course, and would primarily depend on the climate where you're at. It could also have tractor fluid, which is hydraulic oil with additives for hyrostatic drives. Without logbooks or service records it will be nearly impossible to tell, but a few quarts of AW wouldn't hurt.
Does it have a drive motor for each wheel? Never heard of that, as it would significantly increase the cost and complexity over the enclosed chain drive reductions.

Thanks for the reply, the data plate says the manufacturer is Urbanhurst limited from Seatle. Yes all four wheels have seperate independant motors, no chains. Data plate says it is a U800 series 5 machine, (decal on side says L800) so they must have been around for a few years, hopefully someone else in the world has owned one and maybe has a user manual? Looks nothing like the rounder machine though. I will try some aw 46 and see what happens Thanks again :)

Hi Rob Here, I have managed to get a Leader L800 Skid Steer, great machine until now, I have a broken final drive/Torque Hub. I am trying to track one down to replace it, however I cant find anything. I'm wondering if anyone can help. It is a FAIRFIELD MFG Co torque HUB, model number S1CB36S4. Appreciate any pointers!
