Our dealer dropped off a Land plane yesterday, but between the shot hyd. pump and the rain I haven't been able to try it out yet. Does any one else here have one and or used one before? What do you think of it? Any tricks to make life a little easier under the learning curve? Looks to me like it should be a nice fit with the tilt tach I just got.
Thanks for any and all replies,
Don

Well, pumps in, rain's stopped and I've had a little time to try this thing out. First off I graded my driveway with it. Dropped the chisel points and ripped the potholes out and roughed up the rest, from there this thing re-layed it down just like a hot knife through butter. To say I'm happy with this thing would be an understatement, I used it for grooming the side of a berm and it worked very well, and the extra width seemed to add stability while working on side hills. Just don't lift it off the ground until you're back on reasonably flat ground, unless you really like pucker factor. While it's not a do-all tool, it's one that does fit well into the type of work I'll mainly be doing over the next while.

Our dealer called back today, and after a little haggling we struck a deal, so I suppose it's mine now.

None of the ones I've seen in their brocheres have the heart shaped clump busters on them, nor have I seen them listed as an option.

It basically looks like an upgraded spreader bar. Looks good, especially with the tilt tach!!!
i'd love to get a tilt tach, but they weigh so much..... Most of the stuff i do is geting very close to the limits of my machine....

Hi Dennis,
landplane7.jpg
When you want to use the clump busters (not sure what they really call 'em, but that's what they do) you pull the pin and rotate in the direction you want to work and re-pin them. Hydraulic would be nice, but then I wouldn't be able to use my tilt tach.

Once they're in the work position the pin just keeps them in place and the force of working is transfered to the 2" square tubing rather than just the pin
landplane9.jpg
Each one is equally spaced between each of the chisel points and has a slight "dish" to it.
Probably more info than you're looking for, but if you're looking for more let me know. I was originally thinking of making something like it, but for what I paid for it I doubt I could have bought the steel at todays prices.

Hey Don it's not too much info, thank's for going to the effort for the pic's. That's what's on my mind is to build one this winter, unless I find a bargain like you did. dennis

Not a problem Dennis, if and when you decide to make one up I can get you some more pic's and some measurements if you would like. By then I might even have a couple changes I'd incorporate if I were starting from scratch on one, like maybe a removable or hinged plate towards the rear for when you want to move some heavier material loads. (kind of like a box blade) This would definately be a good do-it-yourself project for the winter months.

I would love to make a copy of that land plane, any more information, dimensions etc. would be greatly appreciated.
