I have an L553 skid steer and last year it started getting hard to start. Last summer I put new glow plugs in it but it did not make much difference. I don't think I am getting power to the glow plugs. Is there any type of relay that the power has to go thru before it gets to the glow plug? If Take a reading off the short rods that connect the glow plugs on the top cap would I get a voltage reading and if so what should it be? I don't think it is a compression issue because it does not lack for power. Thanks for any help.

There should be 12v of power at the plug that goes to the glow plugs. Even one burnt out glow plug will make these engines very hard starting. I believe there is a relay that controls them as well, you should be able to hear it click when you turn the key on, I don't know off the top of my head where it is located. If you remove the rods that connect the glow plugs and check them with a 12V test light you will be able to tell if they are burnt out or not. The glow plugs ground the circuit, If the test light glows then you know the glow plug is not burnt out, If the light doesn't glow then you know the glow plug burnt out.

the relay is on the passenger side just infront of the "hood"that opens it is tucked i there pretty tight and looks just like an old ford starter silenode. check your ohm reading on each of the glow plugs first to see if they are good (should be between 1 and 2 ohms) i have had a silenode show power but then under load cut/short out
