Hello all! I have a 763, my first skid steer, has around 4,500 hours. Bought this spring, and has run great while I'm building our house.

Ran into probably a noob question here....Yesterday I was going to grease everything as I've done a bunch this summer. I must have done something stupid when trying to add grease to the joint on the back of the lift arm cylinder (the right side when sitting in). There is a little hole to stick the grease gun through to access the fitting. Not sure what I did, but all of a sudden I couldn't find the fitting and realized it fell out.

Is there an easy way to get that grease fitting back in?? I can feel the hole when I stick my finger in, but I cannot see any way of screwing it back on without taking out the pin or removing a hose, which I was trying to avoid doing.

Thank you for any help!!

I would have to see a picture.
Can you extend (lift) bucket up and it gives you better access?
Is the Zerk fitting a Straight or angled?

I can get a picture in the morning.

I tried lifting the arm up, but then it pivots so the back of the cylinder is down and can't reach it at all.

It is an angled fitting

Confirm it came Unscrewed and it did not break off? You have it in hand?
I guess kind of common for those to Break off.

2 pictures attached. First is the access hole for the grease point. Second is top view of the arm.

If I stick my finger through the access hole, I can reach the point. From the top, I can fit a finger down. So I can can balance the piece in front of the threads, but I cannot turn it. Lifting the arm pivots it down and becomes completely inaccessible

Seems like options are to either remove the hose on top and see if that gives me enough room, or pull the pin. Haven't done either before but going to have to give something a shot after work tonight. Open to recommendations. Was just hoping there was some secret means of access that somebody knew of...does not seem to be the case... 😁 😞

the fitting is on the cylinder end? if so I would be lifting the arms, block them, remove the hoses from the cylinder then knock out the pin and compress the cylinder then install a new fitting.

extend the cylinder back install the pin and connect hoses,

I think Laurencen has it nailed.
The left side , I can reach in above my battery and access but right no go.
Keep us posted.

Will a 1/4 inch drive deep socket that will fit the grease fitting fit in the access hole?

I feel your pain. I think bobcat messed up when they put the zerk there. It should have been on the outside of that pin. If you need to remove the hoses you may want to think about putting an extension tube to the hole in the pin. And the zerk mounted on the end of the tube and perhaps cable tie the zerk to one of the steel hoses where it's easy to access. Caterpillar does this on hard to reach zerks

I GOT IT!!!

I'm sure taking off the arm pin and compressing is the best way to do this, and likely would have even been quicker by somebody who knew what they were doing 😆

But I thought SURELY there's a way to do this…

Didn't get much time to try yesterday. Started with a zip tie dangling in from the top. Could line it up but too wobbly.

Hot glued the zip tie to a piece of wood, which was less wobbly but couldn't spin it the right way. Spinning it was the clear challenge

The 1/4" socket sparked some ideas though. Eventually evolved into the pictures below - notched an old nut driver to hold the angled ball-Zerg, taped it up with some aluminum tape, stuck it on a 1/4" ratchet wrench, wrapped a long zip tie around it for a pull rope, stuck through the hole and seated it on the 4th attempt, then could tighten it down and got grease in.

Always proud of a little redneck fix!

Appreciate all the support and ideas.

Hope this is not a design they kept on later models….

Might consider that idea about extending it if I do take it off in future. Concern there would be if it will be in the way when arms are full lifted up since it will have to pivot all the way down. Probably a way to do that

looking further may have been simpler to drill the pin and put the zerk in the pin drill a hole from the outside to center for grease
hats off for the process just hope you got it tight enough

Ok, this is what I did, place a jack or stand under the rear of your machine so it can't lift the front wheels, place the bucket vertically on the ground and just take enough weight so the pin in question is loose enough to remove. After the pin is out slowly lower the boom as there's just enough length in the hoses for the end of the ram to clear the housing so you can gain access to rescrew in the Zert.
I also went one step further by making the access holes in the frame to about 2", I also used a 45° Zert with about an inch extension that brings the grease point closer to the access hole. Work out the best angle for the Zert and Loctite it in.
If you want pics and/or how I enlarged the access hole just let me know.
