Hi,
I have a deutz engine in my skid steer. I was pushing snow the other morning and it idled down, then died. I started the machine and worked it for another half hour or so-no problems. I parked it in the shed. The temp that morning was about 11 degrees F. I plugged it in. When I tried to start it again, it will fire, then die. I changed the water separator and tried again-same problem. It was about 35 degrees today. I get black smoke out the exhaust and it will fire, idle for about 4 seconds then die like its fuel starved. Can anyone help? I can't move it now. It is still in the shed (no heat), but have a magnetic pan heater on it. I can't figure this one out. It has never done it in the past.
Thank you,
Monte

Sounds like the fuel has gelled or the pick up is clogged. Try running a line from a seperate fuel source like a clean plastic soda bottle and see if it will run.

Thanks for the suggestion. What do I do if the fuel is gelled?? Can I add something to it or do I drain the entire tank?

Try some Diesel 911 http://www.powerservice.com/d911/ you should be able to find it at any good auto parts store or truck stop.
I used the diesel 911 and it worked!!!! I checked the line into the tranfer pump and the fuel flowed fine. I poured removed the water separator, filled it half full of the diesel 911 and fired it up. It ran rough at 1/3 throttle for about 10 minutes and died. I switched the fuel line back to the tank. Started it. It ran rough at 1/4 throttle. Then I opened it to half throttle and it smoothed out some. I eventually opened it all the way up and it smoothed out. I took it out and pushed snow for about 45 minutes-no problems. Thank you so much for the help.
