Hi all, I recently got a 4400 running after sitting for an unknown length of time. My current issue is loud squealing when turning either direction, Going straight there is little if any squealing. Lift arms and buckets have no squealing during operation. So far I have adjusted control linkages, changed hydraulic fluid, cleaned reservoir screen, changed the hydraulic filter, and exercised all hydraulic functions to try and bleed any air out. So far I can't tell exactly where the squealing is coming from. My guess is a failing pump or drive motor. Please help. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello!

I am new to this page as well, but I would like to try to help you, since it looks like this part of the forum is dead. We recently fixed up a worn out 4500 that was neglected on a farm. Can you describe the type of squeal? Like if it's metallic or rubber? Reason that I ask, is because mine is noticeably louder during turns, than our 3510, especially if the throttle is low. My first thought would be air pockets in the hydraulics, also. Are you able to lift the skid steer up on blocks, and observe the operation without a drivetrain load? Maybe the noise is coming from one side, more than the other? Also, when moving in straight directions only, does it jerk or stutter? Does it have power in straight movement, like pushing into a pile? Hopefully we can reach some kind of resolution for you!

Hi, Thanks for the reply. It makes the most noise while under load like turning. While lifted off the ground it does not squeal. Since posting I have used it some and everything seems to be working ok. Just sounds bad. Thanks again for the help.

Does the noise change with the engine at different rpm levels? My main concern, would be to make sure that the suction/intake hoses for the pumps aren't pinched, causing low flow from the reservoir to the pumps. The other thing we have come to find out about these skidsteers, is that the coupling from the engine to the pumps, is an exposed chain coupling, that will get noisy, if it doesn't have any lubrication. We spray our chain coupler with motorcycle chain lube about twice a year, and that has helped with the noise, and failure of the coupling. If these things aren't causing any issues on your 4400, that might be the way it sounds.
