What gauges do the newer machines have in them? My 600 has a ammeter, a pressure gauge, and someone added an hour meter that doesn't work (still reads "0"). That's it. The pressure gauge (100psi) looks as though it measures bypass pressure for the hydraulic filter. Thats where the line goes anyway. No temp gauge, it's air cooled. No oil pressure gauge, only an idiot light. Want to add an oil pressure gauge though, but with 4-15 lbs pressure, might have to go with a fuel pressure gauge instead. Geez, can I say "gauge" more than I already have???? I just like to know what's going on when something's running and going. Doesn't matter if it's a skidsteer, car, or tractor. Glancing at a gauge once in awhile gives me a little piece of mind I guess.

My 743 has voltage, engine coolant temp and fuel level.
My 753G has the same. If fitted with a deluxe panel, it will show engine oil pressure, aux flow rate, fuel, voltage, engine RPM.
I'm sure i missed something! but the most important for a liquid cooled engine is temperature. Then charge pressure.

Must be nice to have a luxurious fuel level gauge.......mine is the sound of the motor stalling......

LOL
Its actually a fuel "indicator" it never reads the true level.....
"indicator" lol
Remember that one.
I too am a fan of guages, I wish the factory would do like the semi trucks and punch a bunch of 2" holes in a dash panel and let you fill them (or option them) as you please.
I like a oil pressure guage, and oil and water temp as well as charge pressure are right up there. My Dodge cummins has the main 4 but I added boost, pyometer and fuel pressure, which helps me monitor the fuel filters condition.
I do like how NH allows you to switch the hr meter display to read voltage, water temp, hyd oil temp and rpm. Though it would have been better if it had more display areas. Enough for say Tach, temp, temp.
Charge and engine oil pressure would have been nice to have a numeric reading on too.
I'm a guage whore, what can I say.

Yeah me too. Kinda makes you wonder how many machines, motors, or hydraulic components could have been saved by the addition of a few gauges. Think a fuel pressure gauge would hold up to engine oil? Seems like it would, they are both petrol. Regular oil pressure gauges have too high of a scale for my 4-15lbs of oil pressure. The needle wouldn't even move. I can get fuel pressure gauges that read up to 20 or 30. Which would be perfect. I'm 99% confident it would work. But the 1% is thinking about how big up a mess I'd have to clean up if it didn't. I'm mounting the gauges overhead when I build the new cage.

If it will hold up to fuel it should have no problem being compatable with oil. You really shouldn't have problem finding a oil pressure gauge that reads from 0-30. Look around for one for a farm tractor most of the older tractors didn't have but 15-25 psi of oil pressure.

Ken - thats actually what my dealer told me when i complained that the NEW fuel sender i bought refused to show a full tank of fuel. It would only ever show 3/4 full, that was a new gauge too. I ended up getting it close by using conductive paint to lower the resistance on the sending unit. Worked pretty well.
I like having more gauges too, the more you know the less potential problems. Especially low oil pressure and high coolant temperature. Both of which will kill an engine pretty quickly!

I'm certainyou would be fine with the fuel pressure, but if you visit Stewart Warner, or VDO or Auto Meter etc you can look up the part # for the oil guage you need. I know SW used to have them.

I'a believer in the engine protection systems. If the end user unstalls it so he understands how it functions it can be a good thing that wakes you up to the problem instantly. www.fwmurphy.com has the guages and they don't cost much more then any other guage. Then a control box to switch on the alarm, or lite, or kill the power/fuel $200 would set up oil and water.

Ken - i totally agree too, you blow a hose or the oil sender springs a leak you don't always look at the gauges when working the machine. I glance at them from time to time, but by the time you notice a gauge is in the red, its too late. I want to get an engine protection system for my compressor, they are about $150 AUD, well worth the price tag if you cooked or ran the engine out of oil! They connect ot the fuel cut solenoid or you intall one in the fuel line.

Thanks Ken. I looked at the gauges fwmurphy.com has. They have a 0-15 PSI oil pressure gauge that would work. Pretty slick outfit. I could wire it into a solid state relay for ignition power, but it would have to hit 3PSI before the engine would run. That might not be a bad thing unless it has to crank for awhile. I haven't monitored it yet, so I don't know for sure. My Wisconsin is air cooled, so I can't use a water temp gauge. Not quite sure how or where you would measure temp on an air cooled motor. Seems it would vary depending on where the probe was, and how tight it was against whatever it was put on. I'm sure it's been done though....

Bob, my old 610 had a temperature sensor on the left hand cylinder head and it was wired in line with the power to the coil. When the engine got to warm it died and after cooling a bit it would start up again. It only died when it was over 90 out and was working fairly hard. I suppose it was just a bimetal switch in it as it was only about 3/4 inch in dia and 1/2 inch thick. I think it was factory switch. Jerry

My 600 didn't have one on the VF4D that was in it. The VH4D that I put in it doesn't have one on it either, but that wasn't out of a Bobcat. There are probably aftermarket kits that can be added I'm sure. I'll do some digging when I get that far and see what I can come up with. Would be a nice thing to have for sure.

I have a Kohler engine with a high temp cut out switch so I thought I go look one up and see what they cost and they're proud of those little switches. These were the cheapest I found. http://www.lawnmowerpros.com/Kohler/Kohler-Cylinders-and-Valves.asp
For what they get for the switch you can get a cylinder head temp gauge they sell for jet skis, snowmobiles and outboard engines.

Yeah they must be proud of them, those are pretty pricey. I'll keep my eyes peeled, I'm sure I'll run across something that will work.
