I have a 2000 Bobcat 864 and just replaced the engine oil and filter. I have heard of issues with the oil dipstick breaking into pieces and causing a multitude of problems. Does anyone have a picture of what to look for so this doesn't become a problem for me?

I have a metal dipstick with only a small bend/indention towards the bottom which is the only part of the dipstick that has any type of etching on it. Can anyone tell me where the oil should be on the dipstick when I have just the right amount of oil? I assumed in the etched part of the dipstick? I drained completely but only put in 2.75 gallons when I could see oil in the etched part of the dipstick. The service manual says the oil capacity is 4 gallons. What am I missing here?

HOW Much oil did you drain out??

from what I seen, and could be wrong, the 2001 model holds 2.5 gallons
Engine Oil Capacity2.5 gal9.4 L

on the 4 gallons ?

is this a

model, maybe there is a difference in oil amounts between them?

as for dipstick, I have no experience with your model or any info on them failing, Maybe try contacting your local bobcat dealer and ask them, if there is a upgraded part, if there is a known failure with the original, there maybe a new part # for a more reliable one, and they can also tell you where to fill things too
as you really don't want to be too low or too over full on oil, either one can result in possible damages!

It is an 864G. I found oil capacity in the specification in the Service Manual. Now you have me second guessing and will need to double check the manual when I get back to the site. It was actually 2.5 gallons after all and not 2.75 so maybe this is fine and would also answer my question about where the oil should register on the dipstick.

10 quarts with filter (2.5 gallons) and 16 quarts with engine cooler (4 gallons). So now my question is, when you change the oil, how do you drain the oil coolers? Shouldn't that oil be changed too? I haven't seen any videos or posts about draining the oil from the coolers, but it seems that I would want clean oil throughout the system. Help?
