hey guys, got a 240 john deere skid steer, not sure of the year but I believe its in the lower 2000's. starts up fine then after about 10 to 15 min it shuts off. I try to start again and it won't. but if I let it sit about 5 min it starts up fine and will last about another 15 min or so then cut off again. I checked fluid levels and everything looks fine. any ideas would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

bobcatdan, I didn't check that, I can do that today. thank u for the reply
sorry I missed typed, its a 260 model not 240. I checked on top of the fuel tank and there was a round plastic piece with a spring inside, looks like its for pressure. I pulled it out and cleaned it but it didn't look that bad. not sure if that's what u meant Bob.

Fuel filters? Our 250 had a inline filter buried down in the loader along with the spin on. You say it wont start are you meaning it turns over and wont fire or wont it turn over

I've seen those inline filters cause problems, mainly people didn't know they were there and never changed them. As for the fuel tank not venting. I'd try running with the fuel cap off.

farmshop, I just got an in line fuel filter that's located just in front of fuel pump. I will install that tomorrow. I will do some research to see if I have another in line filter. thank u. bobcatdan, i'll try running it without the cap and see if that helps. thank u. will install tomorrow and let u guys know, hopefully that will take care of it. thank u again for the suggestions

That's old enough to be somewhat like a new Holland which has a inline filter before the fuel pump and a water separator/spin on filter next to the radiator on the bottom but on back side of the bulkhead.

The inline filter is there to protect the electric fuel pump. Pretty easy to spot right on top of the tank if you know what you're looking for.

From the op's other post though it sounded like he had not changed the spin on filter if it is there.

hey guys, good call on the fuel filter, I reached in above the tank, next to the pump on Friday and replaced it and worked it all weekend with no issues. looks like that's what it was. I thought it was going to be something else given that it kept shutting off about 10 min every time. Thank u all very much for your help.
