Deep snow

I was looking for some advice , I am starting to build a home in northern michigian and was considering renting a skidsteer with a grapple bucket to help with some tree removal (trees are down and cut in to 8 foot lenghts)Iwant to stock pile the logs on the back part of propertey for future use (fire wood) The problem I have is there is about 16inches of snow in the wooded areas . Would I be better with a track loader or a tire machine ? Is this just to deep of snow to work in? The girl at the rental place says no problem just give me your $$ I can always wait to spring but wanted to get a jump on the land clearing, any advice would be helpfull thank you jlb

JLB, think about this, 16 inches of snow is allot of snow. I used to live in Maine and I know snow!
If you can wait till spring? That would be the better choice, and another thing to consider is the phone call to the rental company saying its stuck?? YIKES
I can hear them now, the rental will continue and our man will be there in a few days at ???$$$ per hour.
I don't think I would try that, Have a beer and watch the races and wait till spring

They won't go through 16" of snow, I doubt a track one will either. You would have to freeze down the snow or plow some trails. If the trees are not too spread out it would be possible. But a tire machine with over the tire tracks will not go like a snowmobile. ken
