Convert idiot lights to gauges

I'm wondering how I can convert my loaders idiot lights to gauges. I'd like to start with the temperature gauge. I have a temperature gauge from a 70's ford van , as far as I know you put the wire from the sensor on one terminal of the gauge plus current then the other terminal goes to ground. I haven't found any good step by step videos on the subject.

Do you have a matched gauge and sender? The gauge will not always work with just any sender.
The gauge should have 3 wires, +12, ground and sense. The first two are obvious, ground and +12 you can get from switched power at the jey switch. The sense should run to the pin on the sender.
Hopefully that makes sense, very simple to setup.
One thing is, never run +12 to the sense pin, it will burn the gauge out.
