What can someone tell me about case drain filters. Looking at my manual for my S185 it say's to change them when the hyd fluid is changed. I can't tell if they have been changed or not. My machine is so clean, 1200hrs. any thing I need to know before I change them. I'm sure they almost give them away. dennis

I have always felt that you really don't need to change the the filter , they are rock filters like old sytle Chevy carburator fuel filters, clean the filter wth cleaner and blow off with air , take care you reassemble it the same way it comes apart , that note of how the springs and rock face or it won't filter and let the trash go right thru , if you are concerned get some new orings , but they are reusable at 1200 hours

Thanks for the info. will I need to plug the lines off when I remove the filter?

All the ones I have done will at leak leak pretty good to flow quite a bit. Either have a cap that fits the threads where you remove the filter or have a helper hold a finger over the line while you change out/clean the guts of it. If there is room to set a coffee can in the right place (often times there isn't room) and you work FAST you can get done before the can fills up. Best to have a threaded cap or a helper who doesn't mind oil on their hands.
