case 1840/ boom does not rise

At the begining of this week I was offered by a friend a Skid steer a Case 1840 everything works but the boom it does not rise any ideas on what it could be or if possible how much it would cost me to repair this problem Thanks

Does the bucket work and does the machine have auxillary hydraulics? If the machine has auxillary hydraulics and the bucket still works check the aux pedal and make sure it is centered in the neutral position.

Sounds like a protection device locking the arms out. Seat or seat bar switch.
