I just purchased my first bobcat. Its a '78 632. The guy I bought it from said he was abusing it and got a thump under the seat and shut it down. Upon getting a closer look I see that the brackets on the pump are broken, both front and back on the left side looking into the cage. I am wondering if the u joints attaching the engine to the pump seized and caused the brackets on the pump to break. I am trying to figure out how in the world I am going to get it onto my car hauler, but that is another issue. I would appreciate some insight as to what could make those brackets break. and what anyone would suggest. Am I correct assuming the pump connects to the engine with a u joint? Any pictures of what it should look like? Thank you.

is it too late or have you alreadyy shook hands. the 632 is a rare breed indeed. parts avail is going to be an issue.

Shook hands. But the bracket I can fabricate I'm just concerned about what in the world would cause out to break in the first place. The guy said frozen u joint. But I figured that would cause a vibration not a break. If it even has that type of connection.

it is a double u joint with spacer block. If it did lock up certainly would put a lot of force on the pump depending on how well it was lined up to begin with. I had 632 3 years ago and bobcat quoted me 1000 to replace u joint, I bought parts from bobcat and did it in 3-4 hours for about 200 including new bolts. See if you can withhold payment till you pull the motor to see how much damage was done.

Gas engine has been replaced to diesel only paying $800 for the machine with a brand new set of unmounted tires. figured worst case I could part it out or scrap it to retain my money. I'm mechanically inclined and am in desperate need of a project and a bobcat, figured this will kill 2 birds with 1 stone. Is this a project where I will need some schematics or just pull it apart and put together. If I do need them do you know where I could find a decent cheap manual?

Hard to go wrong at that price. Check with back posts here or with Old machinist for electronic manuals otherwise the dealer is as cheap as any. fairly simply built machine but the books are helpful especially when adjusting things. The dealer was always able to get whatever part I needed.

How many HP diesel engine did they replace the 30 HP Ford engine with? The broken brackets could be from bad u-joint with too much power, mis-alignment of engine to pump causing vibration or a combination of both.

Ok so got it home pulled the 2.2 Perkins. Pulled the engine found a mess. Need to see if I can find the number one pump housing. As the u joint failed it twisted the pump and broke the cast iron housing where my pump bracket mounts to the pump. Any ideas on a pump housing part number? I figure when the engine was upgraded it was not the Same level as the original. There is a fabricated plate that was machined to connect to the flywheel and it's broken too. Figured I'll get a new plate machined. But a part number would help out a lot
