Ive got an old 610 I bought, and havent used yet. did a bunch of mech. drive work, and trying to finish up to use, though I cant just yet, as the wheels are off and its on jackstands. Some info may be non relative but, its got new sparkplugs, cap, rotor and points were sanded for clean contact, carb was disassembled, and thoroughly cleaned. When purchased the mech fuel pump was dead and guy had a gravity fed snowblower fuel tank, which it seemed to run fine off. I put a new pump on, but still have the plastic tank feeding the pump for now with new inline filter and petcock. Ive just recently got the engine fired for first time since last year. It will run with the petcock in the off position....for quite a bit, the moment you crack it open the slightest bit, it wants to die, I did it many times at diff rpms. I even put the fuel tank on the ground below the machine thinking maybe the gravity feed with the pump was flooding it. I dont understand how turning the fuel on the slightest bit makes the engine want to die?? Just for hahas, im going to feed the carb with gravity feed only to see what happens.

Could it be as simple as the float being out of adjustment or the seat is not working allowing it to flood?

Never been into the carb on a 610, but if the valve float needle has a rubber seal, it could be degraded. If you sprayed carb cleaner on any rubber parts, you probably now need new rubber part's. That stuff pretty much disolves old rubber.

like others said, it's the needle and seats job to stop the flow of gas. that being said there are many things that could be wrong not allowing the needle to seat. there is lots of info at smokestack (forum), subforum wisconsin. there's a sticky at the top reads 'notice zenith wisc manual scans'. there is some good vh4d info there. here is some discussion i just found for you http://www.smokstak.com/forum/showthread.php?t=69205&highlight=flooding pin hole in the float, improper float height. worn float pin, bad needle bad seat blocked vent, etc. it sounds tedious but a close inspection is all they require. good luck
