Looking for some guidance on trouble shooting a problem of a recently purchased bobcat. I have a 2003 bobcat 463 with 2100 hrs on it. It has ran fine for two months I have had it but I recently started seeing white smoke come from the engine compartment. I noticed this same smoke a month ago but it stopped (lasted 2-3 minutes) and hasn't returned until now. The bobcat doesn't have any issues starting and doesn't seem to have any sort of power loss. I changed all fluids and filters the day I bought it since the previous owner seemed not to maintain the machine. I recently started the machine and white smoke started pouring out of the valve cover breather tube. As I rushed to put it back on the trailer oil started draining out of the same tube.

Any ideas on how to start trouble shooting the problem would be greatly appreciated.

Smoke and oil out the breather tube is blow-by, something has likely happened to damage a cylinder or piston.

Has the machine over heated at all?

Tazza,

The machine has not shown any signs of overheating since I owned it. I keep a close eye on the coolant temp gauge when operating it which I assume it works due the gauge starting out low and settles in at the high range of green when operating.

The issue stands, if there is crank case pressure, you have an issue with your cylinders/pistons/rings
