I bought a 2004 S185 which will arrive next week. I want to use this to digg some water line trenches about 18 inches deep and digg around some tree stumps. A 8 inch bucket width would be OK. There are lots of backhoe attachments on the Internet and would like to get some feed back.

Has anyone used this front hoe attachment? This may need my needs. Not sure how rugged it would be? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Skid-steer-Backhoe-Fronthoe-Adjustable-Bolt-On-Thumb-Excavator-Attachment-Bobcat-/291500218445?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43dec4584d

That style hoe does work, but remember, every time you need to dump the bucket, you must skid to a side to do so. You mey be able to get hold of a used propper attachment for a little more than that price too.
As for the bucket, you can use whatever size bucket you want, as long as it clears the wheels, the only issue is weight. The machine will only lift so much, so the heavier the bucket is, the less you can move.
