I bought a piece of equipment that was advertised as not needing a case drain, but when it arrived, it had 3 hoses ..one of which is indeed for a case drain. I am wondering if it is possible to install one and what kind of headaches I might be getting myself into. Thanks a bunch!

No reason why you can't add another line back to the tank to allow you to use the attachment.

Thanks. I have never had to do anything like that before, but I will check it out.
As far as i'm aware, all you need to do is tap into a line at the base of the oil tank and attach your line. As long as it's under the oil lever, it won't airate the oil when it enters the tank. You may even have case drain filters that mount to the tank, you hopefully can T into these.

Is it possible to run a line back to the filler tube?

What filter tube are you talking about?
Case drain should be essentially zero pressure, the filter line will be charge pressure, so ideally you don't want that.
There is no reason why you can't add a filter from the case drain line to the tank if you wanted the fluid to be filtered.
