My fuel solenoid intermittently fails to engage. Sometimes it clicks on as soon as I turn the switch & other times I have to switch it off and on many times before it will engage. I've just started troubleshooting it. It has the older type solenoid timer seen in my attached image. I attached an image of the new style also.
It works as it should, the pull wire cycles on & off then the hold wire stays hot. The updated timer says that the hold wire voltage is 5 volts & this one is 12 volts on the hold wire.
I've not pulled out the switch to check it out. Sometimes it seems to make a difference to put an angled pressure on the key or tap the housing. From the images I've seen of the switch, it only has 3 terminals & it will spin if I go past the run position.
Any ideas would be great! I'm an electrician and HVAC contractor, so I know how to troubleshoot control wiring, but without knowing the make up of the circuit it makes it a bit harder.
Thanks!
