940 Mustang Fuel Starving

Hi from down under
My 940 Mustang started starving for fuel intermittently but would restart after stalling and be ok . It became more frequent but has now died altogether . Has plenty of fuel In the tank and fuel bowl is full . I cracked the injectors and pumped the little primer lever and no fuel getting to the injectors .

Also it has an inline fuel filter in the pipe from the tank which I disconnected and there is no flow from the tank with the cap off so thinking it may be blockage at the tank to try first ? Or should I work forward from the fuel bowl . Please help need to complete some drainage on the farm before it gets to wet to work ?
 
Sounds to me like the intake screen is plugged. DO NOT do this on MY recommendation, unless you're stuck, but I'd just blow gentle puffs of air backwards into the tank. And then make sure you've got a good filter before anything important after hooking it back up.

I have issues like that with old automotive stuff, and a few puffs backwards through the fuel line tends to open things right up!

But an old car is junk... You're skidder is worth infinitely more money, and is a tool that is expected to work for many (more) years.

Thank you i couldn't reach the tank side pipe but put a small hand pump with a ball inflator end on it into it and pumped a few times. Still didnt seem to flow very well but i connected it and bled the system it got fuel to the injectors and started running like normal !!!! I started digging the trench i was working on and it doesn't like tipping forward for very long into the hole for a few seconds is ok but longer than that it would starve and then stall but if i drove on level ground was fine. So thinking it is the intake screen that is getting crap in it. Thank you so much owe you a beer if by chance you are ever in Perth Western Australia !!!
Next question is how to remove and clean the fuel tank ?
 
Great! Glad it worked... But i have zero reference for you on tank removal and cleaning. Sorry.

I have looked at the parts manual, she can tell you there is no significant screen on it, but there's a shut off valve that could be fouling with debris. From what I see, it wouldn't take much to make it plug.

I'll look over the service manual now.
 
Service manual I linked doesn't show much, sorry.

But, in the parts manual, looks like it shows on pages 6 and 8 where the tank sits, looks like it's behind the seat (page 16)? Maybe behind some foam?

I don't think it's too hard to get to... But maybe you have to remove the ROPS to access it. (Page 14).
 
The best way is to remove the seat, & remove the valve from the tank. the valve is held in place with a rubber grommet,
the grommet is the same as a riding mower or zero turn mower fuel tank grommet, if it needs replaced, a lot of times i just replace it because it swells a little and is hard to put it back in tank, With little effort it comes out of tank
Replace the hose while its out if its bad, easy to do now . u will loose some fuel i have done lots without draining the tank, (couple of quarts) plug it with ur finger, while u have a second person to clean the valve, place the rubber bushing back up into the tank then push in your valve. blowing back does work but usually its only a temporary fix

Hi I’m in SW Vic. in OZ and have a 940e
What the blokes are saying about strainer/filter sounds highly likely.
But don’t forget that ( on mine at least) there is a fuel solenoid shut off on the top left side looking at the engine.
If that fails in any way it could reduce fuel flow. Mine had obviously failed before my purchase and someone had fitted a mechanical lever and choke cable to turn it on/off… just a thought.. Bob

I do not know if you figured this out yet, but the hand lift pump will not pump fuel to the injectors, its design is to put fuel just to the injector pump( big use for it is to get fuel into new fuel filters). then turning the engine over makes the injector pump push air out thru the injectors.
