well, i finally hooked it up today. everything functions as it should. some of the pistons had rust on them, i just sanded them smooth. the swing piston was a bitch because it had some rust on the back and i couldnt see it. the controls are touchy to say the least. what kind of grease could i put on the block to keep the controls smooth? they are a little stiff.
Can you get oil on them? Or is it the actual spools tight? Sometimes you get corrosion in the caps with the centering spring.
Good to hear you got it running again.

i took the cover off, vacuumed everything and doused it the penetrating fluid. they are easy to move now, but once there is hydraulic pressure it gets a little more stiff. i'm actually impressed with it. sure its kinda a pain in the ass to hook up, but i can honestly say is has more power than the bobcat 322 excavator i used a couple weeks ago. i can't wait to use it on a job. it looks like there are a couple adjustments or something on 2 of the spools, unless they are relief valves or something. they look like they turn but i don't want to mess with it, to be honest after sitting outside basically unused for 20 years i'm surprised it works.

They could indeed be relief valves.
If the swing is too wild, you can put flow restrictors in too, that or a fitting with a small hole drilled in it to restrict the flow to the cylinder. I need to do this to mine actually.
Mine is a pain in the rear to hook up too, one of those things you just need to get used to....

mine doesnt retract far enough, so i have to push the hoe bucket down to make it go back far enough to line up with the balls. is that normal?

How much wear is there in your bobtach? If the lower pins are worn, it will not curl back far enough to engage the balls properly, same with your tilt ram(s). Even a small amount of wear will limit how far back it can curl to engage the balls.
If it becomes an issue, you can modify the mounts and lengthen the bolt holes to allow it to sit a little further forward?

there is definetly some slack in the pins, the machine has less than a thousand hours, and relatively easy hours at that (i know the guy i bought it off of) maybe i should change the pins? it was not that hard to hook up, especially for my first time ever haha
