I have an 853, that I can't get to start. It will crank/turn over but acts like it is not getting any fuel. If I disconnect the fuel line before the fuel filter and run a new line to a seperate fuel supply it will run. Any Thoughts. PS - where does the fuel tank drain from?

Most likely the fuel pickup in the tank is rotted off since it will run on a different source.

Fuel pickup tube is likely rotted off inside the tank. Do a seach for this. Drain is underneath the machine near the rear axel, A cover with 3 9/16" bolts is over the 2 plugs to protect them. Forward plug drains the chain case rear plug drains the fuel tank. Pickup can be serviced under the cab and is back buy the pumps, I believe on the operators right side.

Thanks for the info. I looked at some other threads and It seems that this may be the problem. I tried to drain the fuel tank, but pulled/pushed the wrong plug (chain case). Didn't have a manual with diagram on plugs!!!! The drain plug for chain case is now inside the resivour. Do you think that will cause problems down the road? What is the best way to get the drain plug out on the fuel tank. I tried to pry it out, but couldn't get it to come out.

Are you talking about the steel insert or the rubber part? i can't see the rubber doing any harm, the steel.... *may* cause an issue but i'd doubt it.

How do I access the fuel pickup line on the 853. I lifted the cab and can see the filler neck, but cant see any other place to where I can access and replace the fuel pickup.

Just follow the fuel line back from the fuel filter.

Drain and remove the hyd. tank for more room, you may be able to change it out?, I gave up trying to replace the fuel level sender and pick-up line.
Removed the engine and drive, replaced everything and worked on a few other items while it was out. It's not really that hard to pull the engine and drive.
