When I turn the key to ON (but not start it) no OIL PRESSURE light comes on. Given there is no oil pressure at that time I would expect it to come on. No other idiot lights either. Has anyone installed a oil pressure gauge and had it look decent (non hacked)?

Have you checked the bulbs are not burnt out or the senders are borken? even a abd connector in the wiring harness.
As you know, that really is something that should be working. I'm not sure there is a whole lot of room in the dash to install a pressure gague, only if you removed the volt meter, i don't see that being essential.

So the oil light should come on due to low pressure before its started? How to get the gauge cluster to flip forward? I undid a bolt awhile ago and it did not flip forward.

Yes, the lights should come on before the machine is started as there will be no oil pressure. Much like a car, the lights come on so you know they must go out, if not there is a fault.
I have never removed the cluster, it should just unscrew and fall inward.
