843 engine swap, V2203 from Perkins 4-154

I have an 843 with a perkins 4-154 wore out engine. I have several V2203 some new rebuilt. Has anyone swapped out to V2203? This should make a reliable 834 with out all the issues perkins has. I also have V2203 mounts.

Hey, that's a great project you're thinking about! That V2203 is a fantastic, tough-as-nails engine. We see them in all sorts of equipment and they just run forever.
I think the main thing you'll need to figure out is the adapter plate to get the flywheel and bell housing to match up, but it's a pretty common swap. Despite the difference in horsepower, most guys who've done this swap say the machine actually feels stronger and runs way smoother.

Thanks, I have the mounts, I have made 743 swaps to the v2203 and had a bunch of rear mounts cut out of steel up for me. So, the U joint will go into the Hydro and transferee from the Perkins or is the V1702 mount fine to the hydro unit? I guess I am asking is do I need any engine to trans adapters.

That's awesome with the 743 swaps!

To answer your question, I'm pretty sure you will need an adapter. The bolt pattern on the back of the Perkins is different from the V2203, so they won't just bolt right up to the hydro pump.

Usually, you need a specific adapter plate that bolts to the Kubota engine, and then a new flywheel coupler that connects to your old U-joint. I don't think the parts from a V1702 swap would fit, but I could be wrong. Since the 843 swap is pretty common, you can probably find a kit for it online.

If you are taking out the 4-154 is the cylinder head not cracked because I need a good head for my machine
