Have a 843 bobcat with a 4.154-200 engine. Head is cracked. Found a head on craigslist off a marine engine. (4.154-200) Are there any differences if so can it be made to work. Also need a piston and the same guy has one so I would get it also while getting the head. You guys are right hard to find part for this engine thanks

depending on the marine app. there maybe different water inlet outlet on the marine head ..save all of the parts from your existing head ..i needed to make a plate for the back of my new head to close off water outlet port going somewhere from the marine head ,other than that no problem ..did you see if you could get your head welded ..a few places do it for you .. as far as i know a 4.154 piston is a 4.154 piston ...you are right, very hard to get parts for this engine ..the marine angle is the best bet ...as far as i can tell this engine was used in many sailboats and in 14kw marine gen sets ..also to power the sweeper part of some street sweepers ..

Small cracks near the prechamber cups/valve seats are very common on this head. You might want to have someone that's really familiar with this engine evaluate the crack(s) to see if it warrants replacement. My head had some and my local automotive machine shop told me the head was junk and they wouldn't even try fixing it. I too struggled to find a good replacement (without similar cracks) so I brought mine to another (very large) shop to see about having it repaired. Thier expert came out and told me it was common on the 4-154-200 and mine was fine as it didn't broach any critical areas. They see the cracks all the time and most minor ones don't cause any problems. I replaced a few valve guides that needed it, cleaned the head up and it's been fine.

mine is cracked into a water jacket. loosing compression into the water, it is big. Has anyone ever tried to fix these?

I'm sure there are folks that would fix it. Tough to say if the repair will last.... depends on the base casting integrity/cleanliness and skill of the craftsman etc. A replacement head would be safer in may view but I know good ones frmo reputable sources are 6-800. If you can pick up that marine one cheap and it'd decent, that sounds like a good option.

I guess I did not find one any where close to 600-800 at a reputable place. All I found were 1200-2300 depending if they were rebuilt or not. I went the craigslist route for $360. Who knows if I'll get it or if its in good shape like he says . Wish me luck
