ran out of fuel. i put fuel in cracked injector lines. thing start blew soot all over my face. it ran for about 4 minutes then died. I noticed fuel supply hose was cracked and leaking. I relaced hose bled it all over. getting fuel out of line by injectors but it won't start! Yanmar 4tne can air be getting in return lines? maybe battery wasn't stong enough?? bad injector pump? Pissing me off. i have easier time getting bigger diesel engines that this little yanmar. what gives?

I can't see air in the tap off lines being an issue..... As you said it was blowing soot, that sounds like an injector issue causing it to not burn cleanly giving small balls of soot from un-burnt fuel. I remember seeing this of a friends fordson tractor a few years back.
Are you getting any smoke while its cranking?

HI. I got it started back in November before we got hammered with none stop snow then i had no access to it. It was sitting for a while. i got it started hit me in the face with wet watery soot. probably from sitting. ran then stalled out. I went to check the line from the tank to make sure there was nothing blocking it. the rubber house to the lift pump was all cracked and leaking. SNow is gone and i went to play with it the other day. Fuel coming out at injectors when i crack the line. YEs there is smoke coming out of exhaust when i crank it over. Unfortunately the battery went dead. And has been raining the last few days. SO i didn't make it back. Does the smoke mean it wants to start?? When this machine did run it always started instantly so i don't know how the fast the engine should be turning over. I think i recall the last time i got it started that if you don't get it started quick it sucks the battery dead fast. Please save me here Tazaaa. Also this machine has a return line going to fuel filter. What the reasoning behind that?? thanks

The battery needs to be good to spin the engine as fast as possible to get the air pocket to get super heated. The smoke colour gives ideas of whats going on too. White is un-burnt fuel, black is incomplete burning of fuel.
I'm a bit concerned with the watery black sludge though. It shouldnt' be wet at all.
The tap off line is for internal leakage of the injectors, its totally normal. It will also lubricate the internals of the injector.
Get your battery charged up, even use a car with jumper cables if you can, get all the power to it you can to get it spinning nice and fast. There should be something to heat the air going in, be it glow plugs or a grid that warms the air coming in.
