Hey guys I'm looking at a 773. I was wandering what everyone's thoughts were on the turbo or standard Kubota. Is performance that much better with a turbo? Would the machine be worth an extra 1000 if it had a turbo? Any input would be appreciated.
The only time I find my 773 G short on power is when I'm working on very steep terrain. If you run low on power however, its not like dropping a gear in a semi you can easily just slow down until the engine recovers. The turbo adds about 10 extra HP, its good if you have AC as it more or less takes up the difference that is lost when you turn the AC on. I have an S150 with air, it has an NA engine, without the ac on, it easily has enough power. When i put the AC on, you can feel the loss in power. Extra HP is always nice, but it will use a bit more fuel. If you have no AC, i don't believe you need the turbo.
I have never used a machine with a turbo, i'm sure someone will pop their nose in that has a turbo machine and can give beter advise.
Ken, That is exactly the answer I was looking for, and I appreciate the quick response as I am going to look at it today. If anyone else wants to chime in on performance issues, problems, or price difference between the two machines feel free. The only time I find my 773 G short on power is when I'm working on very steep terrain. That said said the 773 turbo, now know as the s185 does seem to be taking over this class. If you want AC or high flow hydraulics then its a must have option.
I guess it all come down to your patience, just like why some semi truck have 400 hp and some have 500 or 600. Its a need versus want thing. Both for the most part will do the same job, there is just certain jobs the bigger engine will do faster.
Ken
I have a 773G w/Turbo and it has plenty of power most of the time.. It will usually spin the tires before it will bog down. I usually run about 1/3 throttle, sometimes 1/2 when pushing a heavy load. Anyway, I really like using the loader for our type work. Just for info, I do not have an A.C. on the loader. Hope this helps.Ken, That is exactly the answer I was looking for, and I appreciate the quick response as I am going to look at it today.
