753 bogs down, unless backed up?

I just bought a 753 that looks really clean, no leaks, tight wheel bearings and chain, starts right up, etc. 1600 hours. Previous owner claims it was a landscapers. I didn't get any maintenance records though. Sometimes when I start it I can't travel forwards unless backing up a little first. It feels like BICS is working - all lights come on and I can hear the solenoid click. When I try to drive forward you can hear the engine bog down and virtually no forward progress. If I back up just a bit and then try to go forward there are no problems. After the initial backup it drives normally. The chain case oil looks good and the previous owner claims a "1500 hour factory service" was done. I haven't pulled the chain case cover off to drain and check the drain filters yet. Is this normal? Anything else I should try?

Sounds like your brake is sticking a little because the neutral is not adjusted correctly.
What happens when you start it and go back then forwards, let go of the steering levers, does it creep forward?
The brakes will not release when there is load on the wedge, that's why when you go back it allows you to move.
You said it will not move forward much, as in will it move at all or does it just try and stall the engine?

Your diagnosis is spot on. Yes, it creeps when the controls are let go of. And no, it will not move forward, but tries and eventually stalls the engine. Thank you very very much.

The neutral can be adjusted, it does take some time and effort, but can be done.
