Not that I am aware of no..........voltage regulator yes. If your alternator isn't charging it could be a bad connection somewhere between it and the battery (corrosion or oxidation), or either the alternator itself is toast and/or the voltage regulator is (which is part of the alternator). if the connections are good you can remove the unit and have it bench tested but it would be best to just return it for the core charge when purchasing a new one. I found one for my 853 on amazon of all places and it works great (no core required).
