743 wheel bearings

hey guys,can someone tell mee the process or doing the wheel bearings and seals for my 1989 743,do i have to pull the engine and main pump?and roughly how much would the parts be to do all four,i asume that there will be 4 bearings and 4 seals?,thanks,don
 
It depends on what price you can get the seals and bearings for. You will need 8 cups and 8 cones, 4 seals.
The easiest way is to remove the chaincase. Remove the 2 bolts holding the pump to the chain case and remove the bolt holding the arm for the lift to the spool. Use a bar and wire to support the pump. Remove the drive motor hoses. Remove the 20 odd bolts holding the frams to the chaincase. Jack the machine up leaving the chaincase on the ground, rolld it out.

thanks tazza,so what you are saying is the cab,motor,and everything else will be separated from the frame and wheels,sounds like a huge job,but shes leaking very badly and a coupleof bearings are bad,i have a down load from here on the 743,i think its the service manual,i will look at it

The frame stays as one, with the motor control block and all hoses. You simply remove the chain case, its a seperate unit.
The way i did mine was when i had it fully stripped, i could hang it in the air to make installing the sprockets a breeze as gravity held them in place and i didn't need to hold them up in the air, they aren't at all light!
Gives you full access, you can remove both access panels to get to the rear sprockets. Make sure you seal the covers up with silicone when done. Keep the water out.

thanks again tazza,i appreciate the time you spend helping others,i will email you when i do these,its not going to be right away,thats why i was asking what i need so i can price it and save my $ to buy the parts,im from canada so i will probally use the dealer for parts unless anyone else knows a better place,i find usually oem is better but im open to ideas,its a hobby,part time money maker,no jobs for the 743 in nearly a year,the economy is still slow up here

There bearings will likely be cheaper from a bearing supply company. Mostly a lot of grunt work not too mutch cost other then bearings and seals.

I have the bearing numbers in my manual at home, same with the seals. I think it cost me about $400 for 8 new cups and 8 new cones. I'm sure you could get them cheaper on ebay.

Check with www.loaderpartssource.com I know they don't directly offer those yet. But they probably have the information on them if you can give them the bearing and race number and the number off the seal. Might be worth a shot.

thanks guys,i will try out a bearing shop near me,i cant do it till i get a job for her to pay for it,just put new rubber on and thats all i can afford till a job comes for it,but it will

If you're still looking for bearings, I got these Timken part numbers from another member on this site. I haven't confirmed them yet, but he said that for each axle you'll need 2 of part number LM104949 and 2 of part number LM104912. If you shop around online, you should be able to get all four for under $50 per axle (which is about half of what my local dealer is charging). Don't forget to pick up a seal for each axle (National part number: 40301S). I don't remember what the dealer was charging, but these are only about $15 each online and you can usually buy them from the bearing supplier to combine shipping costs. Good luck! -Paul
