The rubber grommet / stop on my dipstick has broke loose from the metal shaft of the dipstick and slides up and down. I was going to try epoxying it in place, but am not positive of the length. Could someone please measure from the dipstick bottom to the flat step that seats against the block for me? I did not see it in a search for this model / motor. Thanks.

Thanks, I would sure appreciate it.
Alan, the total lenght from under the head of the rubber stopper to the end is 171mm or 6.73". More importantly the dimension to the full mark is 116mm or 4.566" and to the lower mark is 156mm or 6.14".

I jut thought of something that relates to your post . Luthor measuremet will probally be right on , but there is a chance it could be different , I don't remember if the 743 engine was effected but know that 753, 763 had a up grade to the dipstick , the stick use to go right into the block and it was rare but possible that if you went on an angle it would go over the crankshaft and when you started up the stick would beat up against the crank , had quite a few that were very hard to pull out as they where bent up bad , Bobcat came out with a tube insert that acted as a guide and a longer dipstick that was adjusted for the tube length , ------------- the most sure fire way I could see to be sure of where you place your mark is to do and oil change and go with the recomended oil quanity and after startig the engine and circulating the oil , then mark the stick , you can't go wrong like that

You're right Fishfiles, I thought about the different models as i was posting, I hope the measurements are OK .
My dipstick also looks like it has been rubbing on something, possibly the crank???

I seen a few machines that have had hose clamps around the rubber hub of the dipstick , never thought of it till now but would guess it was because the rubber slide on the stick , I'd bet there are a lot of machines out there that the rubber has slipped and the operator doesn't know it and the motor is a gallon or more of oil overfull

Thanks guys, will look it over. I know it is "close" we just did an oil change by volume, but would like to get it "locked in". I thought I was going to look at the paint marks etc, but did not have much confidence in what I was seeing. Thanks again.

I just replaced my dipstick with a new one, I think the cost was about $5.00 from the dealer. THey are readily available.
