No doubt I'll be posting quite a few questions as I go about trying to fix the myriad things up with my recently acquired bobcat. Gotta say though, love the machine, there' sex and there's bobcatting, huge fun! Sometimes I haven't removed my ass from the thing until nearly midnight...just too much fun.....and at the same time helping me to sort out the mess my block is in. One of the things I noticed not working is the hour meter. I wasnt sure until I put the right glasses on so I could see the darn thing properly. What's the most likely problem? Meter stuffed, or repairable? Power supply problem? What alternatives are there if the meter is history? Any advice appreciated. Cheers Mark

Hook 12v to the gauge, see if it ticks over. If it does, your hydro pressure sender may be bad. Its used to make the hour meter work. If its all too much effort to fiddle with the pressure sender, hook the meter into the same power wires that the gauges are running off. When the key is on, the gauges and hour meter will work. When the key is off, so is the meter. This is how i wired mine after i re-did my wiring harness.
They are great machines, so very handy

I would suggest testing as Tazza suggests, but if the hour meter is not getting 12V with the engine running that you replace the hydraulic charge pressure switch, as there is a good chance the NC side of it is broken also and would not warn of a low charge pressure.

Hello. I also have a Bobcat 743 with a bad hour meter. These are the steps that I took to get it working: 1. Put 12 Volts DC across the leads of the hour meter and it began working. 2. Used a multimeter and tested positive connector (+) of hour meter and got 12 Volts. 3. Tested the negative side (-) of hour meter and didn't get a good ground (floating) 4. Disconnect positive terminal from battery. 5. Used a wire toner, hooked to negative lead of hour meter and began following wire back to where it fails. Wire ended up under the cab. Toner showed the wire toned out on one side of connector, but lost continuity on the other side of connector. This is the wire that goes to the pressure sender. Problem ended up being the male lead broke off in the female connector on the harness. Se photo of broken connector at top right. https://app.box.com/shared/static/fw80axmeh2fnaue3av3lh405uk5abnhx.jpg I ended up creating new wire harness connectors using a Deutsch brand designed for Heavy Duty equipment. Note: It seems like one harness under the cab is all 14 Gauge (AWG) wire and the other harness has a mix of 12 and 14 Gauge wire. Peter

Well done on the repair, the link to the image didn't work for me, wanted me to login.
I cheated when i re-wired my 743, i hooked it to switched power, this means if i left the ignition on it would keep ticking over.

Try this link to the image. http://s11.postimg.org/68ituy55f/photo.jpg This is the original harness that failed. Note the male connector that broke off in female connector in top left pinout of wire connector. I'll take a picture tomorrow of the new harness that I wired up and send a photo. Pete

Here is a good video showing the new wire connector that I used to replaced the old original harness. http://www.te.com/usa-en/videos/transportation/deutsch-hdp20-hd30-te-logos.html I ended up replacing the two wire harness' under the cab and one near the motor. The hdp20 (i think the p stands for Power ) or hd30 will support both 12 AWG and 14 AWG wire. The bobcat harness has both wire 12 & 14 sizes mixed in with the original harness.

That's a hood looking connector, water proof this time, unlike the OEM one.
